Why is this topic important?

Bianca Spruit: In the tech industry, many managers and leaders step into their roles because they’ve been excellent at their individual jobs, not because they’ve been given the training or support to lead people effectively.

As a result, leaders often become overwhelmed, with too much being escalated to them. They end up doing more than they should, with little time to think strategically. At the same time, teams can feel unheard, underutilised, and less motivated.

This doesn’t just impact performance - it affects wellbeing, team culture, and the ability to fully benefit from the diverse perspectives within a team.

The good news is that this can shift quickly. By learning a few simple but powerful conversational tools, leaders can start to create environments where people feel trusted, take ownership, and contribute more fully.

This leads to stronger performance, healthier teams, and a culture of continuous learning - setting both individuals and organisations up to scale successfully.

Who should attend the session?

Bianca Spruit:

  • Managers and team leaders at any level

  • Senior leaders (e.g. CTOs, Heads of People/HR)

  • Individuals stepping into, or aspiring to move into, leadership roles

  • People who influence others across teams, even without direct line management

What do you hope attendees will leave with?

Bianca Spruit: Attendees will leave with a simple, practical framework they can immediately use to start having more empowering conversations with their teams.

They’ll also gain a deeper understanding of how their communication style directly shapes how people think, grow, and take ownership - and, ultimately, how successful and sustainable their teams and organisations become.

Participants will feel confident creating an inclusive culture where people are engaged, developing, and contributing at their best - making work not only more effective, but more enjoyable for everyone involved.
